A few thoughts on professional development

Teaching Redemptively: Time to realign professional development.

^ I wrote a post on Teaching Redemptively to address some thoughts to that bane of educators’ existence, professional development.

And I got those thoughts from the promising research & work of Melissa Pelochino, one of the research fellows in the Design thinking program at Stanford University. She’s developing great ideas for how to improve the professional development of teachers.

I write. I design. I read and think. I teach. I talk to people -- all kinds of people. My career journey includes working as a librarian, teaching for over a decade, working in higher education, freelancing as a graphic designer and marketing consultant, and earning a doctorate (as of 2022). My dream job would cross-pollinate the skills of barista and consultant, helping individuals and organizations understand the problems they face, ask better questions, and design solutions that work in their contexts. My research interests include improving STEM education in college classrooms, Design Thinking and human-centered design, relational and collective theories of leadership, knowledge life cycles within organizations, and faculty development. Somewhere back in time, my students started calling me "RameyLady" and the name stuck.
